A good membership card design is easy to read at a glance, has room for each member’s details, and still looks good after a year in a wallet. These layouts and tips work for clubs, gyms, venues and associations.
Front: identity at a glance
- Logo or crest, large and clear
- The word “Member” or the membership type
- Member name and number, if personalised
Back: the practical details
- Barcode or QR code, if you scan cards
- Valid-until date or season
- Signature panel
- Contact details and a short “if found, please return to” line
Colour coding
Give each membership tier its own colour: for example, blue for adult, green for junior, gold for life members. Staff can check at a glance.
Leave room for personal details
Plan where names and numbers go before you finish the design. Keep that area plain so the text is easy to read.
Print-ready basics
- Standard card size is 85.6 × 54 mm (CR80).
- Add bleed to the edges and keep text away from the rounded corners.
- Supply artwork in CMYK with images at 300 dpi.
Finishes
Matt looks understated and hides scratches; gloss makes colours bright; spot UV can highlight a crest.
Common mistakes
- Text that is too small to read
- Dark backgrounds behind barcodes
- Dates printed on cards you want to reuse next year
