A plastic key tag is a small card that hangs on a key ring. Because customers carry their keys everywhere, a key tag is always to hand when they need it, unlike a card left in a drawer at home.
Membership
Gyms, leisure centres and clubs use key tags with a barcode or contactless chip for quick check-in. Members scan the tag at the door without reaching for a wallet. See barcode membership cards for how the scanning side works.
Loyalty schemes
Supermarkets, pet shops, car washes and garden centres put loyalty barcodes on key tags so customers have them at the till.
Access control
Offices, residential buildings, car parks and storage units use contactless key tags to open doors and gates. Check which chip type your access system reads before ordering.
Asset and key labels
Estate agents, letting agents, garages and hotels use numbered tags to label sets of keys. A printed logo and phone number help lost keys find their way back.
Key tags with a full-size card
Many schemes pair a wallet card with one or more key tags, so the customer chooses which to carry. See 1-up, 2-up and 3-up key fob formats.
Design tips
Keep the logo simple, the barcode clear of other artwork, and leave space for the hole. See custom key fob design ideas.
