Loyalty apps and digital wallet cards get a lot of attention, but plastic loyalty cards are still the simplest option for many small businesses. The right choice depends on your customers, your till system and how much data you want.

Plastic loyalty cards

  • No download: every customer can join on the spot.
  • Visible: the card sits in a wallet as a reminder of your business.
  • Flexible: stamp cards need no system; barcode or contactless cards work with many tills.
  • Low cost: from £30 for 15 cards, falling to around £1.33 each in a 120 pack (excluding delivery).

Loyalty apps and wallet cards

  • Can send offers straight to a customer’s phone
  • Collect more data automatically
  • Usually involve a monthly subscription
  • Customers must download an app or add a pass, and many will not

Which suits you?

Choose plastic if your customers are a mix of ages, you want quick sign-up at the till, or you prefer no monthly fees. Choose an app if most customers order online and you have time to run digital campaigns.

Or use both

Many businesses offer a plastic card with a barcode that also links to an online account, so customers can choose.
